About Us: What is Health Ed?

Health Education And Promotion (HE) is a team of York Students and Staff that collaboratively work with on and off campus stakeholders to create a community that supports students’ health and well-being.

Our main goals include: creating a healthy campus through various initiatives and providing Health support that encompasses a holistic experience for students, staff and faculty.

Our main strategies encompass both grassroots level work (through peer health educator outreach) to influencing university wide healthy living strategies. We work from a harm reduction and anti-oppression standpoint on both Keele and Glendon campuses.

Our Health Topics:

Alcohol, Cannabis and other Drugs

We educate students on the effects of alcohol and other drugs,  and offer a non-judgmental platform for students to discuss harm reduction and safety strategies, as well as providing supportive resources both on and off the Keele and Glendon campuses.

Mental Health

We promote the mental health strategy for students, staff and faculty. We also provide engaging opportunities to de-stigmatize mental illness at York, access mental health resources on and off campus and develop strategies to help students cope with the current stress of being a student and future stress of being an engaged global citizen.

Nutrition

We educate students on the basics of effective and safe food preparation and planning. We also offer fun and interactive strategies for eating healthy on a budget, both on campus and in the grocery store.

Sexual Health

We educate students on the basics of healthy relationships, sexual communication, and reproductive health. We offer non-judgmental spaces to discuss concerns related to one's sexual well-being and provide referrals to appropriate on and off campus supports and resources.
